There’s a bit of a joke in my family that whenever we go away I “drag them on a Holy Pilgrimage”, so I was sure not disappoint them whilst on holiday in North Wales a few weeks ago, and we set off to find the church of St Tanwg, also known as the church in the sand dunes, near Harlech. St Tanwg’s is a beautiful simple stone building of medieval origin that has been dug out of the sand many times over the centuries. But it’s not really the buildings that fascinate me when I drag my family to these places, it’s the people and their stories. St Tanwg’s is thought to be one of the oldest places of continuous Christian worship in the UK and it just amazes me to think of people over the centuries who have met God there, who have worshipped and celebrated or found solace. Prayer stones left around the church made me wonder about more recent visitors who may have stumbled upon the church and felt God’s presence, or people who have deliberately visited, bringing their hopes and fears in prayer. Whatever their stories, we can be sure that we are united in prayer with God’s people across the ages, through Jesus who is ageless. God has been faithful throughout the generations before us, and we give thanks that He continues to be faithful to us today. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Back to School

I am not a fan of the ‘Back to School’ adverts appearing in about July, but this weekend it really is almost ‘Back to school’.  Tonight Trinity Youth have their end of summer waffle social (see facebook for photos later!), and on Tuesday morning Cerys will be armed with ‘Tea and Tissues‘ for those who have just dropped off children for the first time.  And after school on Tuesday we’ll be giving out ice creams outside church to celebrate the first day back.

Fun in the Sun: Car Treasure Hunt and Young Adults Bowling Trip

The car Treasure Hunt takes place tomorrow, Saturday 30th August, starting at Church at 4pm.  You’ll be given clues which will involve visiting a  number of churches, with a BBQ back at church to finish with.  There is a charge of £10 per car (as this is a fundraiser for the Ride and Stride initiative) and a prize for the winner.

Then there is one final fun in the sun event; the Bowling trip for young adults.  See Keith and Amal for more information about this.

Prayer: Global Week of 24/7 Prayer

Some of you will know that this week is a global week of 24/7 prayer.  We would love to invite you to join one of these joint gatherings if you are able (Trinity Churches will be hosting part of the Tuesday evening gathering at Grace Church on Kynaston Road).  In addition to this, and closer to home, we’ll be praying at the Radbrook Community Cafe for the the area at 7pm on Tuesday. Do come and join us!

Ride and Stride

This annual event, a fundraiser for the Shropshire Historic Churches Trust, takes place on Saturday 13th September.  Both Holy Trinity, Meole Brace and Holy Trinity, Belle Vue will be open for those who are ‘riding’ or ‘striding’ or even ‘driving’ between churches to gain sponsorship.  If you would like to take part, please do have a word with Gill Madley or ring the church office, and if you would like to help keep church open for the day then we would also love to hear from you!

It’s too early to talk about it but…

…plans are already underway for Christmas. This year we’ll be focusing around the theme of Love (which feels like a pretty good place to start when we are talking about Jesus!) For the last few years a wonderful team have knitted, crocheted and crafted little ‘give aways’, like angels or stars, which we’ve hung on trees in our local area to advertise our services. If you are someone who enjoys wool craft, then this is your invitation to get started on this year’s project of hearts. We are so grateful for this largely unseen ministry which is such an important part of our witness in our parish at Christmas.
