Fi, Cerys and I spent last night with some families getting ready to have their children baptised. We were on ZOOM, and so whilst there was no cake and coffee in the usual way to kick off with it did mean that friends and family could join in from wherever they were across the country. It felt a huge privilege to see parents, godparents, grandparents and others join in the conversation, and each of them exploring what following Jesus might look like. At the same time as we met online ALPHA were meeting in the Trinity Centre, with twenty or so people taking part in our current course. “Who is Jesus?” “Why did he die?” “How can I be sure of my faith”? These are all really important questions,......

I read this week about Danish artist Jens Haaning, who was loaned £60,000 in bank notes by an art museum to reproduce his work “An Average Danish income” which featured the notes fixed to a canvas. But inspiration struck, and Haaning pocketed the money instead and sent back an empty frame called “Take the money and run!” I gather the museum opted to show the artwork anyway, but are threatening legal action if the dosh isn’t returned soon! At harvest time we often think about “all good things” sent from heaven above, which includes our money and so much more. And a couple of our Sunday HOLY HABITS series features living with generous hearts and sharing with others gladly and freely. These are important spiritual disciplines, and ones we......

You may know that Facebook, Instagram and Messenger crashed earlier this week, and were out of action for a few hours. The outage meant that teenagers had to talk to parents rather than texting, colleagues got to gaze out of a window rather than look at a device, and cute cat videos were in short supply. It did also impact six o’clock live on Monday evening, with no Facebook Live available for our daily gathering. Whatever your social media status, we’re continuing to learn what fellowship looks like as part of our HOLY HABITS Sunday theme. Whether you’re in person or online, whether you’re new or old or somewhere in between, we are all called to a profound sense of belonging to God, and out of that to one......

This next two Sundays (3rd and 10th October) sees us celebrate harvest. Think Apple Day, floral displays, scarecrows, harvest gifts, and the like. We’re going to be marking this in our Sunday services as well as a few other midweek activities. As always, we’d love you to join us. I often joke that though we sing “we plough the fields and scatter” most of us prefer to go to the shops when it comes to our food. This year, more than ever, we thank God for the amazing network of people who help bring food to our tables. The dedication of all those in farming communities, the skill of those working in food production, the hard work of those who work in selling… and of course the delivery drivers......

So, Strictly is back. This annual autumn-fest of salsa, sequins and spray-tans has returned to our screens on a Saturday evening. Love it or hate it, it’s bizarre how it gets everyone talking about who’s “got two left feet”, the finer points of the quickstep, or the latest wardrobe choices of a various celebrities. I must admit to no longer being a huge Strictly fan. But I do still like the montages of dancers who were totally hopeless on week 1, but begin to change as time goes on. Over time and with a lot of practice, we see the Saturday night stars find their rhythm, trust the professionals, and begin to find their feet in the world of dancing. There’s the presence of an expert to guide and......
