2024 Election Hustings

Monday 24th June 2024

We’re delighted to be hosting an election hustings this year on Monday 24th June, 7pm to 8.30pm. Taking place at Holy Trinity Meole Brace, and organised by Churches Together in Shrewsbury, it will feature local candidates in an evening of lively debate and conversation.

This is an open forum meeting for everyone in the constituency. The first half of the evening will feature two or three short interviews with local people opening up an area of public interest through their story, at the end of which there will be a question and discussion amongst the candidates. The second half of the evening will be a more familiar “question and answer” format with the chairperson ensuring a fair but robust coverage of issues, questions and candidates. Questions can be suggested ahead of time below, and chosen fairly by the team organising the event. At the end of the evening each of the candidates will give a closing statement, with refreshments in the Trinity Centre being served for those who would like to stay.

This is not a ticketed event, although we will need to limit access should we reach over 300 people. Doors will open at 6.20pm. It will also be livestreamed via our website at www.trinitychurches.org/hustings.

Got a question?

We’d love to hear from you. We certainly won’t be in a position to ask all the questions submitted, but we’re trying to cover a wide range of local issues on the evening with the candidates.  Please note, to get the best out of our time together we don’t expect there will be opportunities to submit questions ‘live’, so please let us have your proposed questions as soon as you can. Click on the SUBMIT QUESTION button for more details.

Why are we doing this?

As Churches and Christians across Shrewsbury we are keen to inspire and encourage Christians to get involved in politics and the public sphere, seeing Christians respond to God’s call to positive, relational political engagement. We believe that “decisions are made by those who show up”, and we want to be part of that.
