Join in the “Earth Strike” in Shrewsbury

This month we’re looking at “Eco Church”, and how at the heart of the Christian faith is the belief that the gospel can be good news for God’s earth. So often the care of creation has been seen as a marginal preoccupation within the life of the Church. But by making small changes to our own lifestyles and campaigning for the government to make big changes we can be part of halting the progress of climate change.
Alongside Sunday sermons and various practical resources we’re wanting to get involved publicly. Churches across the diocese of Lichfield are being urged to get involved in a climate action day on Friday 20 September, and as a local church we are going to be part of this. We’re inviting people to take to the streets, and join together with young people in particular in calling for climate justice for everyone.
You’ll find details of the local event on the poster. Why not join in at the Market Square from 11am, or if you’ve only got time over lunch you can join in the picnic, music and fun between 12pm and 2pm on Pride Hill. As a church we’ve decided to release staff members to attend as much as they can, and would very much encourage others to attend. Whilst for many of us attending a march like this might feel something new, getting involved with others in these sorts of events can be an amazing way of demonstrating that care of creation is an integral part of the Church’s mission.
