The Glebe Field next door to church

We are pleased to say that as of a few days ago the PCC of Holy Trinity Meole Brace took full ownership of what is known as the “Glebe Field” next to the church.

2019 marks one hundred and fifty years since our current church building opened, and so this newly-acquired ownership comes at a time when we celebrate our ongoing life for over one thousand years at the heart of Meole Brace. As we hope both the church and Trinity Centre are a gift to many near and far, we very much expect that this piece of land will enhance the life of both the church and the community.

Our possession of the Glebe Field has come as part of a land exchange between the PCC of Meole Brace and the Diocese of Lichfield, and comes after three years of careful discussions and agreements. One of the clauses stipulates that there be no residential development on the Glebe field for a five year period, and whilst the PCC has no current intention of using the land in this way I am in no way wanting to “tie the hands” of future PCCs by making any commitments beyond that time.

Over these next weeks and months we are committed to having opportunities for consultation and discussion as how best we might use this new resource in Meole Brace. To start this process there will be two ‘open meetings’ to which local residents and church members are very much invited. You are most welcome. These will take place on Wednesday 20th March from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, and on Thursday 28th March from 4pm to 5pm. If you are unable to come, but would like to submit an idea, then please do contact Phil Cansdale the vicar.  Some of the current ideas include gardening projects, reflection areas, safe-space for families, and environmental ventures. With a thriving church, Trinity Centre, schools, sports use and a busy local community we do also need to acknowledge and address some of the wider issues of parking within the whole local area.

We’re excited by opportunities to enjoy this land next to the church, and to see how God’s gift – and our care for it – can be a blessing to the local community for generations to come.
