This month’s mission focus is the work of Christian Aid. Their mission is to end poverty, fight injustice, and respond to humanitarian emergencies, and they are doing this in 29 countries around the world, bringing hope and lasting change. One of those countries is Guatemala, where lives are being transformed, including the life of a woman named Aurelia.

Aurelia comes from a long line of farmers, but climate change and large industrial plantations have made growing food incredibly difficult. Heatwaves, storms, and unpredictable weather have left families like hers struggling to survive – as she says herself, “climate change has been killing our crops, and this is our food.”

But through one of Christian Aid’s local partners, Aurelia received specialist agricultural training. She learned how to farm sustainably, using indigenous methods – producing her own organic fertiliser, harvesting native seeds, collecting rainwater, and even creating her own feed and medicine for her chickens! She now grows crops like cacao, sugarcane, cinnamon, corn, and pineapples and is leading community initiatives to pass on her knowledge, including setting up a farmers’ market, and promoting women’s rights.

This year, Christian Aid are 80 years old, and so please do join us in praying for them:

  • Thank God for 80 years of Christian Aid’s work, for the lives they’ve touched, and for the impact they’ve had on communities.
  • Pray for Christian Aid’s partners and volunteers around the world.
  • Pray for continued hope and progress in ending poverty, fighting injustice and bringing about lasting change.

Grace and Peace

Liz Lewis, Chair of the Mission Relief and Development Committee

This Sunday, 25th May, we’ll be meeting across our congregations to worship together.
At our morning services, we’ll be continuing to look at the work of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament. Kevin Roberts is speaking at 9am and 11am (please note 11am is Holy Communion this week), with Robert Parsons at CTK. Fi Iddon is speaking at Holy Trinity, Belle Vue, and Alistair Hornal is preaching at the Evening Service.  Trinity Youth will also be meeting at 6.30pm this Sunday.

Ascension Day Service

Ascension Day (Presentation).jpg

We’ll be holding a short Communion service in church to celebrate the Ascension of Jesus on Thursday 29th May at 6.30pm. After this, there will be an opportunity to ‘ascend’ the tower for those who would like to do so, before the bell ringers begin their practice.

Board Games Evening

Board Games.jpg
Our next Board Games evening takes place on Friday 6th June at 7pm. Come along by yourself or with others, and enjoy playing games together. We’ll have some games there, but feel free to bring your own, too.

Half Night of Prayer

We’ll be holding another half night of prayer on Monday 9th June. Please do make it a priority to attend even for half an hour. As you will no doubt have heard, there is a ‘Quiet Revival’ underway in the UK, and we are starting to see some signs of it here too. So let’s make prayer a particular priority at this time (and indeed during our own vacancy).

Ordinations

What a joy it will be to host the ordination to Priesting of our very own Ian Budd on Saturday 29th June at a joint service at 10.30am. More details to follow both about this, and the parish lunch to follow, in due course. But there is no need to sign up for this as it’s here at Meole Brace and there is plenty of room.
The evening before this (Saturday 29th June), Dave Latcham will be ordained Deacon at 6.00pm at Lichfield Cathedral. He sends an open invitation to join him, but he does need to know numbers by the end of May. You can sign up for this by clicking below.

Parish Profile Working Group

At the APCM last Sunday one of our wardens, Jenny Surl, outlined the process of seeking our new Vicar and explained that a key part of this is preparing the parish profile, which acts a little like a job advert.  A group has begun work on this document, and have started contacting various groups and ministries to help put together this profile. The period of consultation is relatively short, as we are hoping to have this prepared before the holiday season begins.

In addition to these direct approaches to groups and ministries, there will be two open meetings held on Wednesday 25th June – at 2pm (in the back of church) and at 7pm (in the Bradbury Hall) – and anyone is welcome to attend these.

Let’s keep being a church that is praying for the vacancy process, and listening to how the Lord is speaking to us.

Confirmation Service

Advance notice that we will be holding a Confirmation Service on Sunday 20th July during the 11am service.  If you are interested in affirming your faith through confirmation during this service then please do speak to one of the ministry leaders team.

For your prayers…

Please pray for the family of Glyn Owen as we celebrate his life this Wednesday at 10am, and for Kevin and Anne Roberts as the funeral of Margaret Roberts takes place on Thursday at 2pm.  Both services are in Holy Trinity Church, and all who would like to do so are welcome to attend.

Trinity Life

You can find out about all this, and more, in our latest edition of Trinity Life – available both in the back of church and online. Please note that some people are having trouble accessing this via the link, but the link from the front page of the website does work.
