Weekly Email w/b 24th June 2024

Have you ever thought, ‘if only…‘? If only I had more time, or energy, or money? If only I was younger, or better looking, or funnier? Ask any children’s minister and they could give you a list; the things we could do, if only…

Recently, I was chatting to Andy Digby after the Sunday morning service, and I told him my ‘If Only’. We have been having an amazing time on Welly Sundays with Trinity Kids outdoors, but we dream of a permanent outdoor space where we can sit, reflect, wonder, and meet with God. If only…

The next thing I know, my inbox pings with a message that says, “the logs have been delivered!” Can you believe it? Andy had gathered his mates, Andy Houghton and John Hughes, and of course a few power tools, and they set about creating the most amazing garden for our children, with logs to sit on, beautiful painted planks to make benches, and even seat pads for wet days! We are utterly blown away!

This week, as Trinity Kids sat under the yew tree on our lovely new benches, we explored how the space made us feel, and wondered about the things this tree could have seen and heard over the hundreds of years it has stood there. ‘Echoes of worship, laughter and tears, home, holy, glorious, beautiful and never criticised’ are some of the words we came up with.

What a huge honour it is to sit with a new generation under that ancient tree and meet with God, and we are so hugely thankful for those that share our vision and support our ministry in so many ways, from prayer to power tools!

‘We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power and the works he has done.’ Psalm 78:4

Cerys Hughes, Children and Families Minister

This sunday.jpg

This Sunday sees us on the third week of introducing our new “more like Jesus” values. Fi Iddon will be speaking at the 9am service, CTK and then the 11am services, and Phil Cansdale will be speaking at Holy Trinity Belle Vue. We’ll be looking at the third of our values, “authentic”, as we reflect how Jesus promises fullness of life in the midst of a broken world, and how we model integrity, humility and compassion in all we do.

At the evening 630pm service Judith Drury will be speaking on the next instalment of our look at the Sermon on the Mount. Touching on ‘loving our enemies’ and other similar themes, we continue to look through Jesus’ amazing teaching in the gospel of Matthew.

Election Hustings (1).jpg

WOW. And thankyou. There were well over 300 people at the election hustings earlier this week, and another 100+ people online. Particular thanks to the team who got involved in many different aspects of the gathering. If you’d like to watch the event before it is taken down you can find it on our website.

Do keep praying – and playing our part by voting – over these next few days.

Holiday at Home is our wonderful annual event, where you are invited to come for three relaxing days of fun and activities.

People are coming for all three days, or just choose to come to one or two days. What ever you decide – you definitely don’t want to miss it!

A new entry this week, with another trip coming up in September. We start the day at Kenilworth Castle with a chance to visit the gardens and castle. We’ll then head to Coventry Cathedral for a guided tour and time to look around the area before finishing with Choral Evensong. Previous trips like this have featured Liverpool and Hereford, so we’re really excited to be back on the road again this summer. More details, and booking, via the Church website or be in touch with the Church Office.

wardens 2023-4.jpg

Anyone know what the collective noun for a group of church wardens is?
Here’s a pic of the newly sworn-in wardens (for another year) at Meole Brace and at Belle Vue. We’re so grateful for all that they continue to bring to our life, and ways in which they work with clergy, staff team, congregations and many others in overseeing and supporting our life here. Do please pray for them, and encourage them in every possible way. Left to right they are: Erica Staples, Jenny Surl, Anne Hasnip, Sarah Wolton (HTBV), Sandra Lloyd (HTBV).

Would you like to make a difference in the lives of children, families and schools in Shropshire? Might you have some time and experience to help a new venture led by Lichfield and Hereford Dioceses with a vision for high quality, inclusive Christian education?

Meole Brace CE Primary is one of a number of schools consulting about joining a new Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) called “Shropshire Church of England Academies Trust”. This is a really exciting venture for supporting church schools across our county. Directors are currently being sought who might bring experience of finance, legal, HR, property etc. You’ll be part of working to improve young people’s life chances, and getting involved at the beginning of an exciting journey. Chat to Phil Cansdale for more details, and read more below.
