This will be the last weekly email for a few weeks as we head into holiday time.  Please do keep an eye on the website, especially for ‘Fun in the Sun’ information…

As it’s the fourth week of the month, we are delighted to hear and pray about the work of Shrewsbury Street Pastors.  This is a ministry that truly embodies Christ’s love in action on our very doorstep.

Since 2011, this remarkable team of Christian volunteers has answered God’s call to serve those in need during weekend evenings in Shrewsbury town centre. What began as a response to requests from local police and Shropshire Council has blossomed into a powerful witness of inter-denominational unity, bringing together believers from over a dozen churches across our community.

Their mission reflects the heart of Jesus’ ministry: to listen, help, and care. Whether offering practical support like flip-flops to those struggling in heels, water to the dehydrated, or simply being a compassionate presence for someone in distress, these 30+ volunteers demonstrate Christ’s love without condition. They help reconnect separated friends, arrange safe transport home, and provide comfort in moments of vulnerability—truly being Jesus’ hands and feet in our town.

Working alongside the “Urban Trinity” of local council and West Mercia Police, Street Pastors have even acquired a triage support vehicle—affectionately called “The Donkey”—enabling them to reach those in more remote areas with shelter and emergency aid.

As we partner with Street Pastors, we’re investing in a ministry that makes Jesus visible on our streets, meeting people exactly where they are with grace and generosity. Thanks for your prayers.

Grace and Peace

Steve Jones, Director of Shrewsbury Street Pastors

This Sunday, 27th July, we’ll be starting our new series, ‘Summer in the Psalms’ in our morning services, looking at Psalm 63.

Blackberries on the Glebe Field

Blackberries.jpg

The glorious weather has brought an abundant crop of blackberries to the Glebe Field. There are more ripening every day! Do bring a container on Sunday and pick some after the service if you would like to do so. We don’t want to see them go to waste!

It’s too early to talk about it but…

…plans are already underway for Christmas.  This year we’ll be focusing around the theme of Love (which feels like a pretty good place to start when we are talking about Jesus!)  For the last few years a wonderful team have knitted, crocheted and crafted little ‘give aways’, like angels or stars, which we’ve hung on trees in our local area to advertise our services.  If you are someone who enjoys wool craft, then this is your invitation to get started on this year’s project of hearts.  We are so grateful for this largely unseen ministry which is such an important part of our witness in our parish at Christmas.

PCC minutes

Following a request, we are now publishing PCC minutes on the website.  These won’t be the full minutes as some matters may be confidential.  But we hope it gives a flavour of what has been discussed by those elected to guide the church in this way.  The page is now live, and the draft minutes (which will be approved at the next PCC) will be up there by lunchtime today (Friday)

Sermon Resources

We’ve now got a dedicated page on the website where preachers can add resources they’ve used in sermons which others may find helpful. First up is the poem, written by her lovely mum, which Sarah Rozenthuler used a couple of weeks ago and which several people asked for.  As time goes on, we’ll be inviting preachers to add to this page which resources they’ve used or mentioned which might be helpful for others.  Again, the poetry will be added by lunchtime today.
