When I’m 64…. or 74..84…or 94…..

When I get older …. and I can’t get out easily, few, if any, people call and a trip out probably means going to the doctor or to a hospital appointment. When that day comes, I expect I would be very touched if someone offered to take me out for coffee, lunch or tea. A short journey to see what’s going on in the town or village, a modestly priced meal – or coffee/tea with a scone or cake – and conversation. That would surely be a treat.
It’s sometimes difficult to think ourselves into other people’s shoes, but the reality today is that there is a lot of chronic loneliness around, where people of all ages feel they can’t engage with society, and the longer it goes on, the worse it becomes.
We can each do our bit – and many of us do. Jesus called it “loving our neighbour”. But if, this New Year, you feel you want to make a big difference in someone else’s life, why not invite them to one of our regular events at the Trinity Centre –
- Trinity Table on the first Tuesday of the month
- morning coffee every Tuesday
- the monthly afternoon tea on the third Wednesday
- or visit Café Connect or the monthly afternoon tea at Radbrook.
You can come too – it doesn’t cost much – other than a bit of love.
After all….“It’s so much more friendly with two” (Winnie the Pooh)
