Each morning we wake up to news of wars and rumours of wars. We hear how countries across the globe are increasing their defences, and it can be hard not to succumb to worry and anxiety about where we are heading.
I have just spent a week in Germany teaching on a Youth With A Mission School of Biblical Studies where we were looking at the Gospel of John and we were all struck by the beauty and majesty of Jesus, God incarnate, the Word become flesh, the Son of God.
What a stark difference between Jesus’ ways and the world’s ways. Jesus washed His disciples’ feet saying, “You should do as I have done for you.” He said, “As I have loved so you must love one another.” Jesus also said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid…I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.’ (John 14:27;16:33).
We need Jesus. We need to follow His example of serving one another; We need Jesus who loved us so much He died for us, commanding us to live in the same way; and we need Jesus who frees us from fear, so that no matter what comes our way, we can rest in His peace along with the sure knowledge that He has overcome the world.
Many Blessings
