Weekly Email w/b 7th September 2026

I can honestly say that I've never watched a boxing match in my life, but this week my Instagram feed has been full of the entrance to one particular match. Katie Taylor is an Irish, gold medal winning, boxer who walked out for her final match at Croke Park on Saturday night. Traditionally, a boxer enters the stadium to a song that lifts them up, and speaks of their power and might. Katie, with Psalm 18 emblazoned on her boxing kit, entered the ring to the worship song, 'All Hail King Jesus.'

At the most crucial moment in her career, Katie Taylor wanted to point to Jesus; it's all because of because of Jesus, and it's all for Jesus, He is Lord and King. We'll be aware that, particularly over the last few years, there have been increasing numbers of sports personalities giving Jesus glory in all that they do. We must pray for them as they boldly proclaim their faith.

But Katie Taylor (who I confess I had never heard of before last weekend!) has challenged each one of us. Whatever places and spaces we find ourselves, let's take every opportunity to make Jesus known.

Grace and Peace

This Sunday, 13th September, we'll be continuing our summer sermon series, 'What's in a Name?' across our morning congregations as we think about God our Shepherd. Our preacher at 9am and CTK is Fi Iddon, while the 11am will be hosted by the All Age Team. Ian Budd is at HTBV. The evening congregation will be beginning studies in 2 Timonty, with Anne Roberts preaching. Trinity Youth will be meeting at the same time, upstairs in the Trinity Centre.

11am Picnic



Our final summer time congregational meet ups. takes place after the 11am service this Sunday, with a picnic. Bring your own food, and perhaps something lovely to share with others, and something to sit on. It will be great to have some social time together, and hopefully some games on the field.

Ride and Stride



The Shropshire Historic Churches Trust annual 'Ride and Stride' event takes place tomorrow, At the end of the day, the ringers will be participating in the M54 corridor 'ringing wave' to commemorate the Shropshire Association of Bellringers Centenary, and the Tower will be open from 3.30 to 4.30pm. Also available is a 'zine , a commemorative limited edition booklet of art and poetry (by our own Michael Carding). These will be on display in church on Sunday, too, and available for purchase in either pounds or guineas!

There are two group rides taking place on 12th September (you can do both, if you would like!) The first (8 miles) begins promptly at 9.30am at Holy Trinity, Meole Brace, finishing at HTBV at around noon. The second ride begins at HTBV at 12.30pm and will finish at HTMB at around 4pm.

Apple Day



This is one of our biggest and busiest days of the year as we welcome hundreds of the local community to celebrate harvest. Please do let us know if you are able to help on the day - either during the event or with set up or tidy up. Remembering Anastasia Lawrence


Ana's funeral service will be this Wednesday, 16th September, at 1pm in the Mission Church, Street, Somerset, BA16 0HZ, following a private service of cremation. At Ana's request, please wear colours. We continue to pray for Kevin, Sarah, Ben, John and Olive, and the wider family.
