Lent invites us to draw near to God at a time when the world can feel unsettled and uncertain. Daily news of conflict and suffering can weigh heavily on our hearts, stirring anxiety, grief, and a sense of helplessness. Lent does not ask us to ignore these realities, but to bring them honestly before God and it has been helpful to do that in the Half Night of Prayer, in our Lent programme and in services together.

The writer of Hebrews encourages us:
"Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith." (Hebrews 10:22)
Drawing near begins not with having answers, but with trusting that God meets us in our fears and holds us in his peace.

As a church, we journey through Lent together in simple, shared ways. We gather for worship, allowing Scripture and prayer to shape us week by week. We take time for reflection, perhaps through a daily reading, a moment of silence, or a shared prayer at home. Some of us fast from distractions, others take up acts of generosity or kindness, all of us learning afresh what it means to depend on God.

We also journey together by supporting one another. We pray for those who are struggling, we listen well, and we remind each other that no one walks this road alone.

Lent is not about carrying the weight of the world on our own. It is about walking together, drawing near to God, and discovering again the strength and encouragement that comes when we pray and worship side by side. We bring the burdens and anxieties to God knowing that He brings renewal.

May this season deepen our faith, strengthen our love, and lead us together towards the hope of Easter.

This sunday (1).jpg

This Sunday,
15th March, is Mothering Sunday, and we'll be continuing our sermon series 'Prayers of the Bible' as we reflect on the way that Jesus prays for his friends. Our preacher at 9am and CTK will be Nick Webb, with Fi Iddon speaking at the 11am, and Ian Budd at HTBV. The evening service is a Focus Sunday where Anne Roberts will be sharing before an extended time of Prayer for the Middle East. Trinity Youth will be meeting upstairs in the Trinity Centre at 6.30pm as they continue to study Revelation.

We have two more opportunities for Corporate prayer during Lent…

This Tuesday sees Creative Prayer in Church for All Ages between 5.30 and 7.30 (under 18s to be accompanied, please), and then our final prayer gathering is Taize prayer on Wednesday 25th at 7pm.

Service of Remembering

Service of Remembering.jpg

Next Sunday afternoon we'll be holding one of our twice yearly services of remembering at 3pm. This is a precious opportunity to gather to remember those who we have loved and who are no longer with us. All are welcome to attend, and if you would like a name of someone to be read out then please contact the office or arrive a few minutes before the service starts. These are always very special services, and are followed by a time of fellowship over refreshments for those who would like to stay for them.

Praying for the Church Family

MOG photo.jpg

The Ministry Leaders Team have committed to praying for all members of the church family over the next year at our morning prayer gatherings. This means that you are likely, at some point over the next months, to receive an email or phone call asking you how we can hold you in prayer. All requests will be held confidentially...and this doesn't, of course, stop you asking for prayer at any time at all - we would love to pray for you!

PCC

Many of us will know of the amazing work of our Finance Officer Jenny Jones, even if we haven't actually met her! Jenny is heading for a well earned retirement at the end of March. If anyone would like to write a message to her then there are card pages at the back of church... and if you wish to contribute to a gift can do so in cash (so she doesn't see!) via the church office.

And Jenny's departure means that we will be recruiting a new part time Finance Officer. If you, or anyone you know, may be interested in this position then please do have a look. And if you are someone who uses social media then we would be grateful if you would share the advert which will appear later today on facebook.
