A few weeks ago Nick Webb reminded me of the words of the Benedictine monk Luigi Gioia who speaks of Jesus climbing mountains to pray. Gioia comments that this isn't because God is more available on a mountain top than anywhere else, but because Jesus symbolically rises above the whirlwind of earthly events, anxieties and fears to a place where He can get a larger picture.

There is a lot of reflect on in this image. Among many other things, it's a reminder that prayer enlarges our vision, broadens our horizons and helps us to step outside worldly concerns to see the bigger picture of the Kingdom. We see further and more clearly from the mountain top of prayer.

As I hope you will know, we've made corporate prayer a real priority over the interregnum. There is a real strength in gathering with our Christian brothers and sisters to seek God together. Central to this calling is our termly half night of prayer. You can come and go as you please – some people come for half an hour, though others stay for longer. There is no need to be there all night, although you are very welcome to do so.

And so this is an invitation to 'climb the mountain together' this Wednesday evening as a church family, as we seek together to become More Like Jesus and follow as He leads us.

Grace and Peace

This sunday (1).jpg

This Sunday,
8th March, we'll be continuing our sermon series 'Prayers of the Bible' and will be thinking in our morning services about praying from our hearts. Our preacher at 9am and CTK will be Fi Iddon, with the All Age Team leading the 11am, and Ian Budd at HTBV. Judith Drury will be speaking at the Evening Service about 'Living for the Cross- laying down one's life for one's friends'. Trinity Youth will be meeting upstairs in the Trinity Centre at 6.30pm.

Please do also be praying for our Young Adults who are away on a retreat weekend with Keith and Amal Moore. Pray that this will be a blessed time of fellowship, fun and growing deeper in faith.

Lent

You can come at any time during this period, but children and young people must be accompanied by an adult.

Half Night of Prayer

On Wednesday 11th March we'll be holding our termly 'Half Night of Prayer'. These evenings are always such a blessing, and we encourage everyone to try to come – even for half an hour or so. There are always lots of people 'coming and going' through the evening…the important thing is that we join together and pray.

Many of us will know of the amazing work of our Finance Officer Jenny Jones, even if we haven't actually met her! Jenny is heading for a well earned retirement at the end of March. If anyone would like to write a message to her then there are card pages at the back of church... and if you wish to contribute to a gift can do so in cash (so she doesn't see!) via the church office.

And if you are someone who uses social media then we would be grateful if you would share the advert which will appear later today on facebook.
