As a child I remember seeing a poster of a completely blank page and, at the very bottom, writing which said, 'This is John 3: 16 in X number of languages.' (X because my memory isn't that great… but statistics from Wycliffe Bible Translators suggest that 1 in 5 people are still waiting for a Bible in their own language.) This poster was an advertisement for the work of the Bible Society, which is one of the charities that we are delighted to support through our giving here at Trinity and it powerfully highlights some of its hugely important Kingdom work.

The Bible Society works on translation, publishing, distribution and engagement programmes around the world to enable more and more people to be able to read the Bible for themselves. Within the UK, it has been really effective in helping to make the Word of God relevant to different demographics, for example through their Open the Book programme in schools, and its rich history working alongside prisoners. Many of us will have participated in the Bible Course, which gives a fabulous overview of the Bible. The Bible Society also conducts research which helps churches to become more effective in ministry and mission; the recent research on the Quiet Revival was commissioned by the Bible Society.

Please do be praying for the work of the Bible Society as we continue to support it. It has its roots, not far from here, in the determination of Mary Jones to read God's Word in her own Welsh language. Let's pray that all those who receive the Word of God for the first time might, by the power of the Holy Spirit, be pointed to the Living Word who is Jesus Christ.

Grace and Peace

Fi Iddon, Associate Vicar

This sunday (1).jpg

This Sunday,
22nd March, we'll be concluding our sermon series 'Prayers of the Bible' as we reflect on the way that Jesus prays in Gethsemane. Our preacher at 9am and 11am will be Sarah Rozenthuler, with Shirley Stevens speaking at the CTK. HTBV will be hosting the Preschool Easter Service led by Fi Iddon. The evening service sees us think about 'Living the Cross: Rejoicing in Suffering' and Peter Madley will be speaking. Trinity Youth will be meeting upstairs in the Trinity Centre at 6.30pm as they continue to study Revelation.

This Sunday is also Welly Sunday for Trinity Kids, so they will be meeting in the Trinity Centre from 10.50 in suitable outdoor clothes and boots. It's always a joy to hear how they have been encountering God in creation.

Service of Remembering

Service of Remembering.jpg

On Sunday afternoon we'll be holding one of our twice yearly services of remembering at 3pm. This is a precious opportunity to gather to remember those who we have loved and who are no longer with us. All are welcome to attend, and if you would like a name of someone to be read out then please contact the office or arrive a few minutes before the service starts. These are always very special services, and are followed by a time of fellowship over refreshments for those who would like to stay for them.

Many of us will know of the amazing work of our Finance Officer Jenny Jones, even if we haven't actually met her! Jenny is heading for a well earned retirement at the end of March. If anyone would like to write a message to her then this is your last chance to sign the card pages at the back of church... and if you wish to contribute to a gift can do so in cash (so she doesn't see!) via the church office.

And Jenny's departure means that we will be recruiting a new part time Finance Officer. If you, or anyone you know, may be interested in this position then please do have a look. And if you are someone who uses social media then we would be grateful if you would share the advert which will appear later today on facebook.
